Artistic Description
Olive Trees have been Najat’s greatest inspiration for her artistic work. To her they represent the true nature of the people of Palestine.
They are the symbol of peace, resistance, resilience, endurance, perseverance prosperity and life itself. They are cable of living for thousand of years just like the land of Kanaan and its inhabitants. They provide work, food, oil, soap medicine and shade for its people. Najat El-Taji El-Khairy paints her olive trees on porcelain tiles, that are equally a symbol of endurance, using a raised enamel technique to give each leaf a special effect and importance. Each tile undergoes several firings to preserve the work.
The branches extend bearing olives - the “Fruits of Peace”.
