Bridal Chest Panel:

Safeguarding Women. In olden times it was believed that mythological symbols embroidered on traditional Palestinian dresses prevented the evil ghosts from harming the woman. Designed to protect her heart, four golden symbols couching-stitched on the chest panel are the center piece of contemporary Palestinian wedding dresses. The four symbols represent:

The Hand of Fatima that averts and protects; the Fish, which has become a symbol of Christ, bringing wellbeing and prosperity; the Crescent and Star symbolizing the Islamic faith; as well as the Eye deterring evil and ill intentions.

Technique: Pen work and raised enamel on a porcelain tile, using 24K gold paint.
